'Symbol' is a selective tool in Adobe Illustrator that if you choose to use, will allow you to create a graphic that will be copied into your file. Symbol allows you to create an image (in my case a Penguin) which can then be modified and duplicated and then added into your sequence. I created my penguin through selecting the Symbol tool and then added it onto my time line, before adding key frames to move the penguin across the screen. I was able to alter the penguins position on screen to look like it was moving across the background.
In the screen shot below we can see that I manipulated the image to make one penguin larger than the other as well as one beginning slimmer than the other a you are able to do that with symbols.

This is my finished GIF.
Good demonstration
